What types of fences are there?

What types of fences are there?

What types of fences are there? Fences come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. From your basic wooden plank fence to industrial heavy duty iron fences, and everything in between. There’s a fence for just about every function and aesthetic.

Most home fences are built with wood or chain link aluminum. While very sturdy and cost-effective fences can also be built using various other materials like bamboo, PVC, iron, and vinyl. The various materials allow each style of fence to be built with vastly different appearances.

Property Line Fences

Property line fences are typically built for front yards with shorter heights and planks that are further spaced. Great for keeping pets and small ones safe.

Privacy Fences

Privacy fences typically built higher and seen in backyards and in locations near higher traffic roads.

Iron Fences

Iron bar fences can be found in larger area yards. While they can be installed around an entire perimeter you’ll usually see this type of fence built for front yards.

Vinyl and PVC Fences

Vinyl and PVC fences allow for a consistent look and are very low maintenance. Most vinyl and PVC style fences are made in the “white picket fence” form and style.

Chain Link Fences

Chain link fences are a go-to for parks and sports complexes. While primarily seen in older neighborhoods. You’ll still find new chain link fences built for front and backyards.

Rail Fences

You’ll find farm style and rail fences on properties that have a lot of land to cover.

Barbwire Fences

Barbwire fences fall into the same line as farm and rail fences. Primarily used to mark property lines and to keep larger animals in (or out).

Electric Fences

Electric fences are a bit like “modern-day barbwire fences”. Used in the same manner as a barbwire fence to keep animals and livestock in and protected.
